There’s been a resurgence of photography prints among the younger generations in the past few years.
I always loved flipping through photography albums, or hanging photos on the walls in my hallway, because it felt like a small way for me to let other people into my life. But, why are teenagers so obsessed with photography prints right now?
I think it may have something to do with nostalgia, but it also might have something to do with the fact that teenagers just understand why photography prints matter.
They’re Nostalgic

Nostalgia is obviously a big influencer in everyone’s lives. We go home to the city we were raised in every year. We eat at the same places we used to. We follow traditions around the holidays.
So what can be better than having photography prints to hang around your house to remember all the good times you’ve had?

There’s a reason movies always show someone staring at a photograph and crying. If you did that while staring at a picture on a screen you’d look a little crazy!
Besides, there’s something to be said for being able to hold a physical print in your hand while you walk down memory lane.
All Other Mediums Fade Out of Fashion

This is one of the most compelling arguments for keeping photography prints. All photography mediums go out of style.
If you’re like me, then you have cassette tapes and vinyl records and all sorts of out-of-date technology taking up space in your attic.
And, if you’re like me, then you may just have some out-of-date photographs doing the same thing. I have CDs of photographs and homemade video tapes and floppy disks that I had to go through to modernize.

One way to beat needing to constantly revamp how you store your photographs is to print them.
Unlike CD-Roms and floppy disks, I just don’t see photography prints ever going out of style - especially if you invest in high-quality prints that last a lifetime.
Printed Photos Are Free From Distractions

It’s not as much fun flipping through photographs from your childhood, or showcasing all the insane places you visited while on vacation, if you’re constantly being hounded by social media pushes and email notifications.

Viewing photography prints is a much more calming experience than viewing them online, and in a world where we are constantly online, it’s a really nice break from reality.
And what is photography except a calming expression of our identity? I don’t want that online.
Printed Photos Are Heirlooms

I love photography prints because I like to feel connected to all of the past photographers in my family.
Plus, if you’re up to date on your photography printing tips, then your photography prints will last for decades. They can be something you pass down to your children and their children after that.
I’ve been in the position where I got handed boxes and boxes of photographs from relatives and I loved the excitement of sitting down with them to determine what to keep and how to store them. I wouldn’t exactly want to do the same thing to my children but with hard drives.
