Elephant Stock Canvas Print Review

Sometimes ordering canvas prints online is a bit of a crapshoot. This is especially true if you buy from a company that you aren’t familiar with. 

But I’m preparing for a head-to-head canvas print shootout between multiple companies (7 this year!), and that meant getting prints from companies I’d never worked with before. 

Elephant Stock is one such company. 

However, since Elephant Stock has some great reviews, I wasn’t too concerned about placing my order. After receiving my Elephantstock canvas print, I have since questioned if a lot of the reviewers have ever held a quality canvas print before?

Elephant Stock Return Policy

The ElephantStock return policy is quite good. 

Not only will they refund your purchase upon you opening it, but there’s also no questions asked.

All you have to do is get in touch with them within 60 days of receiving your art prints, and they’ll issue a refund to the credit card you used to make the purchase.

This doesn’t apply to custom orders, though. There are no returns on those.

Elephant Stock Reviews

To give you an idea of what I’m doing here, my goal was to order 12x24 canvases from multiple companies, without spending more than $100.

My Elephant Stock order cost broke down like this: 

• Print: $54.95
• Shipping: $9.95
• Tax: $3.98
• Total: $68.88 

Given the glowing Elephant Stock reviews I found online, I was feeling good about the canvas I ordered from them. That changed when I opened it. 

Right out of the gate, I could tell that the colors were flat with a ridiculous blur on the outer edge of the canvas. And if I’m honest, the print looks pixelated as well.

The canvas itself isn’t what I expected either.

In last year’s canvas print shootout, I criticized CanvasPop for canvas that felt flimsy - like my fingers could go right through it. And though Elephant Stock’s canvas isn’t quite that bad, it definitely doesn’t feel high-quality either.

The print is extremely light, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but in this case I think it’s indicative of the quality of the print.

One of the tests I did was to include an overly large signature in the image file to see which companies contacted me for clarification on size or took measures to correct the problem themselves. To be clear, the signature is HUGE...to the point of being completely ridiculous. I thought for sure each company I ordered a print from would be contacting me to ask what in the world is up with the signature. Elephant Stock didn’t contact me or take the initiative to correct the problem, so the signature wraps around the edge of the print.  

The bad surprises continued when I turned the canvas over….

There’s just a single cleat (aka sawtooth) at the top for hanging.  Which as an added bonus is noticeably crooked. Speaking of hanging, having it flush against the wall is impossible because the corners on the frame have huge gaps and aren’t flush.

There’s no corner bracing, so I fear the corners won’t stay square over time. There’s also just a single support in the middle that appears to be made of ⅝-inch untreated plywood, so, again, I worry about sagging over time due to a lack of support.

Additionally, as I noted earlier, Elephant Stock doesn’t allow for custom sizing. I wanted all the prints for the canvas shootout to be 12x24, but that wasn’t a possibility with these guys because their frames are premade. Premade frames feel a bit cookie cutter. Plus, I know many of you are professionals and have certain sizes you might be after, so the lack of custom sizing could definitely be troublesome. It is also a good indication of why the frame with my print is so subpar.

The canvas looks rough on the back of the print, too. The edges aren’t cut well and are jagged. The staple frequency is good, so I don’t anticipate the canvas curling in the back.

But, overall, I’m underwhelmed with this print. Either no one took a look at it before it was shopped or quality control took the day off. Either way, I’m disappointed!
