Last year, I did a $100 secret shopper canvas print shootout. The winner was CanvasHQ.

I’m doing the same challenge again this year, and wanted to see how seven different companies - CanvasHQ included - stack up against each other in a new and best canvas print shootout.

There was a lot to like about the CanvasHQ canvas I got last year. So that begs the question...can they meet or exceed the bar they set a year ago?

CanvasHQ hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (Central time) Monday-Friday. You can reach the team during those business hours via phone at 1-877-283-9899. You can also use the chat feature on the CanvasHQ website if that’s more your style, or you can drop them a note from their contact page. You can even drop by CanvasHQ headquarters if you find yourself in the Fort Smith, Arkansas area.

CanvasHQ Products

CanvasHQ focuses solely on canvas prints. This might seem restrictive to some, but in this case I think it benefits CanvasHQ. Some companies try to be a jack of all trades, but end up being a master of none. That’s just not the case with CanvasHQ.

CanvasHQ offers a wide range of options when you order a canvas print. They offer custom sizing so you can get the print just right for that space over the sofa or above the fireplace mantel. You can select from a number of canvas finishes, too, including matte, semi-gloss, glossy, iridescent, and vintage.

There are multiple options for border colors. You can choose a classic black or white border (or any other color, for that matter), a mirrored wrap, or an image wrap. These can be paired with one of three frame depths - .75 inches, 1.5 inches, or 2 inches. 

There’s also an option to add image effects, if you wish, including black and white, landscape clarity, 72 and sunny, and more.

CanvasHQ Return Policy

The CanvasHQ return policy is simple: if you aren’t completely satisfied with your print, you either get a new print or your money back. All you have to do is let them know about the problem within 30 days of getting your print in the mail!

CanvasHQ Reviews 

As I noted earlier, in last year’s canvas print shootout, CanvasHQ was the big winner, and it really wasn’t even close.

In the last year, CanvasHQ has continued with its tradition of high-quality products according to the CanvasHQ reviews I’ve found online.

They have a 5-star rating on Facebook (based on 27 reviews), a 5-star rating from Top Consumer Reviews (shown above), and Photo Workout gives CanvasHQ a rating of 4.8 stars.

CanvasHQ Canvas Print Review 

I had extremely high expectations with the CanvasHQ canvas print that I ordered for this review. As winners of last year’s shootout, they set the bar high in terms of quality, customer service, price, shipping, and more. 

They did not disappoint. 

For starters, this was one of the least expensive canvas prints I ordered. Here’s the price breakdown: 

Print: $60.95 (after 30% off using the “Honey” promo code)

Taxes: $0.00

Shipping: $0.00 (also part of the “Honey” promo code)

When I got the print in the mail and opened up the box, I was immediately impressed with the colors of the print, just as I was last year.

Not only are the colors accurate, but they’re vibrant and contrasty. The image detail and sharpness are on point as well. 

As part of the test, I included a signature on the print that was far too large. CanvasHQ took it upon themselves to resize the signature so it looks good on the print. No other printer I worked with for this year’s canvas shootout did that, so kudos to CanvasHQ!

Another thing that leaps out at you when looking at the canvas is how tight the corners are.

This CanvasHQ print has neat and tidy corners that keep the canvas nice and tight like a drum. Something else that helps keep the canvas taut is the frequency of the staples on the back. This print has a zillion staples (maybe not that many, but a lot!), and when paired with the corner bracing and center braces, you have a recipe for an ultra-tight canvas print.

Of course, you need to have a well-constructed frame to keep the canvas tight, and CanvasHQ certainly delivers.

These frames are hand-crafted from precision-cut kiln-dried pine. The stretcher bars are smooth, straight, and true to give the canvas the ideal backing to keep it from sagging or bowing over time. 

The canvas on the back is clean cut with no loose edges. You can see these details because there is no backing on the canvas.

 

I actually like having a backing on the canvas, so this is kind of a bummer not having one. I mentioned the same thing last year when I reviewed a CanvasHQ print, but I suppose if you take the time and care to craft such a sturdy frame that you might want to show it off. I suspect that’s why CanvasHQ doesn’t put a backing on their prints.

The mounting hardware that’s included with the print is simple, straightforward, and works like a charm. CanvasHQ even sends you a low-profile wall hook to make quick work of mounting your canvas on the wall.

All told, this is a fantastic print that I would have been proud to trust CanvasHQ to drop shipped to a client.
