Last year, I ordered a canvas from CanvasPop as part of a secret shopper $100 best canvas prints shootout.
I wasn’t impressed with the canvas I got from these guys. The canvas felt cheap. There were ink smudges, and the mirrored edge was not done well. That was just the start of the problems.
But, I think it’s important to give people a second chance, so I included CanvasPop in this year’s canvas print shootout.
In this CanvasPop review, I’ll give you a few details about CanvasPop and will also dive into my CanvasPop canvas print review to see if anything has changed from last year.

You can also opt to get your money back. You just need to supply CanvasPop with a photo of the print and request a reprint or a refund.
CanvasPop Online Reviews
Finding CanvasPop reviews online is a little difficult. There aren’t many sites with reviews, and most of those sites are ones I’ve never heard of.
There are a few Yelp CanvasPop reviews (13 at the time of writing), and those ratings add up to a 3.5 out of 5 star review.
CanvasPop Canvas Print Review
Like I said earlier, I was a little gun shy ordering a CanvasPop canvas again given my experience with their product last year.
Again, I ordered a second canvas as part of my upcoming 2020 canvas print shootout. The premise is that I order the same 12x24 print from multiple printers and cap the budget at $100 to see which company is the best.
Unfortunately, I had a similar experience with my CanvasPop canvas print this year as I did last year.
When I unboxed the canvas, the first thing I noticed was that there is a floating frame around the canvas. I didn’t ask for the frame, so at first I wasn’t sure why it was put on there.
Then I realized...the frame is there to make the canvas tighter and hold it in place.
One of my complaints about last year’s CanvasPop canvas was that it wasn’t tight. Though the frame “solves” this issue, my guess is that when I take the frame off this canvas will be every bit as flimsy as the last one.
The frame also has obvious holes in it, perhaps from different mounting hardware that was removed and then the holes were filled in, though not very well.
The print itself has colors that are okay - nothing spectacular but not the bottom of the barrel, either. If anything, the print looks overprocessed. The saturation is too high and the contrast of the print is WAY too high.
As you can see in one of the photos above, I included a ridiculously big signature with the print to see which companies contacted me to discuss the problem or just solved the issue themselves. CanvasPop did neither.
Not only is the signature far too big for the print, but it’s also mirrored on the sides of the print. This looks even worse!
On the back, you can see that the frame has no center brace and no corner braces. This goes back to the addition of the floating frame - it offers additional strength to keep the canvas tighter due to the lack of bracing on the back.
Though mounting hardware is included with the print, it’s just a single sawtooth hanger. Unfortunately, the hanger on my print is slightly crooked and it isn’t even in the middle of the print!
Instead, it’s about an inch off-center.
The staple frequency isn’t great, either. When the canvas that’s used is so cheap and flimsy, you need many more staples than normal to give the canvas more touchpoints to keep it tight. Well frankly speaking, I think it’s good practice to have staples close to each other regardless of the canvas quality. But in all honesty, I’m not sure adding a ton of staples would help this canvas feel less flimsy.
At least CanvasPop allows you to order custom sizes. I was able to get a 12x24 print, which is more than can be said for other companies that will be involved in the 2020 canvas print shootout.
Here’s the cost breakdown of this print:
- Print: $62.50 (after using a Cheerful50 half-off promo code)
- Shipping: $14.00
- Tax: $5.55
- Total: $82.05
While getting 50% off might seem like a great deal, it’s really just a marketing ploy. The reality of it is that this is really misleading - the actual price is likely $62.50 to begin with, but with an inflated “normal” price alongside it, you think you’re getting a crazy good deal.
So, it’s obvious that my CanvasPop review unfortunately is just about as bleak as it was last year. Considering this, I can’t imagine something like this getting drop shipped directly to a client. I’ll have more details on how this canvas stacks up against the competition in the 2020 canvas print shootout, so stay tuned for that!
