6 Reasons Why Photographers Love the Canon EOS Rebel T5

Despite the growing influence of mirrorless cameras in the entry level market, DSLRs are still one of the most powerful segments in the industry and the competition is high. The Canon Rebel T5 was announced a year and a half ago, but we decided to revisit it and see if it's still worth buying. Canon T5i share similar features with this camera but its better than T5. Here are 6 reasons why photographers love this camera.

1. The price

If you're looking for great image quality at an affordable price, look no further. The Rebel T5 is insanely cheap at less than $400 with the standard kit lens. There simply is no better alternative for the budget conscious photographer who wants a new camera.

2. The image quality

It might not be the latest in sensor innovation, but the 18 mp CMOS of the Rebel T5 still packs a solid punch. Image quality is excellent even when compared to more expensive enthusiast DSLRs. Tonal range is great, dynamic range is very good and the sharpness is more than enough to enable shooters to print in large sizes.

3. The size

At just 435gr (body only) the Rebel T5 is a small and very light DSLR. Apart from the obvious advantage of not tearing your arm off or breaking your neck, using a small camera like this will make you less visible. That means you can use it successfully for street photography, something that's a lot harder to do with bigger cameras. It also takes a lot less room in your baggage, making it the perfect travel camera.

4. The simplicity

This is a camera that was designed to make photography simple. It's the perfect learner's camera and it's up to the user to decide if the camera should make all the settings or if he or she wants to take over the controls. The T5 has a Feature Guide that displays a simple description that determines the applicability for each situation. It can really save the day when you're caught off guard not knowing what settings to use.

5. The video mode

Besides being a great still camera, the T5 behaves well when you switch it to video mode. Obviously there are no surprises and this camera was never a game changer in its class, but it's still capable of delivering great looking 1080p footage and if you think about all the lenses you can use with it, you'll quickly see that this is a great camera for the budget filmmaker.

6. The investment

It's not just that this is an insanely cheap camera. It still holds value and it will for at least a couple of more years. Sure, it may not be a camera for the serious amateur, but it can still be a great walk around camera or a reliable second body. There's nothing jaw- dropping about it, but at this price it's just a hard deal to pass.
