Canvas On Demand Canvas Print Review

Years ago, Canvas On Demand was one of the top canvas printing companies that had a reputation for great products.
Does that hold true in 2020?
To find out, I placed an order for a canvas. In this Canvas On Demand canvas print review, you’ll get all the details about my experience, as well as a detailed look at Canvas On Demand.
Without further ado, let’s get started!

About Canvas On Demand

Canvas On Demand has been around for nearly 20 years, and in that time, they’ve been considered one of the best canvas printing companies.
What made people flock to Canvas On Demand was the promise of having easy-to-use tools for quickly creating and ordering canvases, top-notch customer service, and prices that don’t leave you with sticker shock.
The company’s motto, “Make Sweet Memories,” is intended to highlight their desire to make getting prints as easy as possible, that way you can spend more time actually out taking photos and making new memories.

Canvas On Demand Promo Code

Though I couldn’t find any promo codes or coupons on the Canvas On Demand site, by Googling “Canvas On Demand Promo Code” I found a number of sites that claim to have active promo codes.
At Groupon (shown above), you can get up to 50% off. On CouponChief, there are deals promoting up to 86% off, though that’s the same deal that’s currently running on Canvas On Demand without needing a promo code.

Canvas On Demand Return Policy

The Canvas On Demand Return Policy is a little vague.
The returns page says that “If you are not completely satisfied with your canvas, please let us know so that we can work with you to fix the issue. We want to make sure that you LOVE your canvas!”
If you simply don’t like your print, Canvas On Demand says that they will “work with you on a resolution.” They’re a little more specific if the product is damaged in shipping, saying: “Any order that doesn't arrive in perfect condition, either from a flaw in printing or physical damage, will be replaced immediately at no cost or hassle to you. We offer a one year guarantee on the quality of our canvas materials.”

Canvas On Demand Free Shipping

After doing a search for “Canvas On Demand Free Shipping,” I was unable to find any discount codes, promo codes, or coupons for free shipping. In fact, shipping for my canvas was $19.49, so far from free.

Canvas On Demand Reviews

As I said earlier, Canvas On Demand was known for many years as one of the best online canvas printers. But my experience was not a good one (more on that in a bit).
Ironically, one of the latest Canvas On Demand reviews on SiteJabber was from a customer that ordered multiple prints from multiple companies for comparison’s sake. I’m doing the same with prints from seven companies.
As you can see above, their experience was not a good one, and as you’ll see below, I had a similarly poor experience.
All told, Canvas On Demand has a 2.5-star (out of 5 stars) rating on SiteJabber. Their rating on TrustPilot is far higher at 4.8 out of 5 stars, though.

Canvas On Demand Canvas Print Review

I’ll cut right to the chase...my Canvas On Demand canvas print is hugely disappointing.
I’m ordering under-$100 prints from seven different canvas companies and comparing them in terms of quality. I’ll be presenting my findings later in a head-to-head comparison.
But I will say that since Canvas On Demand has been around for so long, I just assumed that their canvas would be among the best I ordered.
Things started off well enough with the print being relatively cheap:
Print: $27.99 (with a savings of $158.01)
Tax: $3.68
Shipping: $19.49
Total: $51.16
But what I got in the mail was shocking.

This canvas is among the cheapest I’ve ever seen. The canvas itself is flimsy and thin. The “frame” behind it - if that’s what you want to call it - is equally flimsy.
Instead of having a traditional wood frame, this print seems to have a hard cardboard “frame” that’s been folded together, kind of like a pizza box.

There are no staples that I can see, so I assume that the canvas has been glued to the cardboard substrate. As you can see above, I peeled the backing back to see what the frame was like. This is what I found:

There is no weight or heft to this - it’s light as a feather, which doesn’t really say “premium thick wrapped canvas,” which is what I ordered. In fact, calling this particular product “premium” is an absolute joke.
The canvas itself has colors that look flat. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be much sharpness there either. The print even looks a little pixelated.
I added a gigantic signature to the print as a test to see if Canvas On Demand would contact me about whether that’s how I wanted the signature. I also thought that perhaps they’d just correct the size themselves.

Unfortunately, Canvas On Demand didn’t do either of these things. Instead, the huge signature is a major distraction, occupying way too much of the frame. It also wraps around the side, which looks absolutely ridiculous.
Other problems arose too.
The corners of the canvas are sloppy. The mounting hardware is cheap and off-center. The black backing on the print is crooked (shown below).

Also, I wanted to order 12x24 prints from each of the seven companies I’m testing, that way I’d have a consistent size between them. Canvas On Demand doesn’t offer custom sizing, so I had to settle for a 14x20 pre made print frame.
Honestly, if I had drop shipped this to a client, I would have been mortified. This is nowhere near premium quality, and I would have been embarrassed for a client to see this.
Like I mentioned, I was expecting a lot from Canvas On Demand. That makes what I got from them that much more disappointing!
