Coronavirus isn't the only topic with rampant speculation these days...
Ever since Canon confirmed development of the EOS R5 (and, honestly, well before that...) there has been a tsunami of rumors about the specs the camera might have.
Of particular interest to most folks is the in-camera 8K video capability. That little nugget has been the source of much speculation and ire from detractors who called 8K video "a fantasy." PhotographyTalk.com has done Canon EOS R review which has 4K full HD video shooting capabilities.
So, to shut those rumors down, Canon Australia issued an extraordinary press release to quell fears that the R5's 8K video would come with significant caveats, like a huge crop or no Dual Pixel AF or a lack of certain frame rates, as has been the case with previous Canon cameras.
The press release from Canon Australia confirms three major features of the camera.
First, it will have full sensor width 8K video at 30p.
Second, all 8K video modes will work with Dual Pixel AF.
And third, it will also have advanced animal AF. Not only does animal AF recognize animal eyes, but it can also detect an animal's face and body when the eyes are not visible.
That's the good news.
The bad news is that we'll all have to wait a while longer to get our hands on the EOS R5. With so many supply chain disruptions caused by the coronavirus, it doesn't seem possible for the R5 to be ready for its predicted release in June or July of this year.
But with specs like these (and who knows what other specs it might hold...) the wait will definitely be worth it!
